I had the great fortune of spending time at The Buckhead Cigar Lounge on a Sunday afternoon. Now I knew nothing of cigars but Mike, who co-owns the Buckhead Cigar Lounge, changed that. Located in Dantanna's to the side, The Buckhead Cigar Lounge looks like the "dad and his friends only" room in your parents' house but you can order food and liquor from Dantanna's while watching the big screen television or the many other tvs around you. Technically it's a store and you can go into the store/humidor and select your cigar from probably the best variety this city has to offer. Most of the cigars are under $10 but the more exclusive ones like those made by Zino or Romeo y Julieta cost from $35 to almost $50 per cigar. According to Mike, cigars are a lot like fine wines, they have different bodies of flavor and it depends on what the person puffing one prefers. Unlike cigarettes, you exhale only with cigars. Once you've selected and paid for your cigar, which has a $10 cutting fee if you are puffing there, you can park at a table or you can lounge on a leather couch. Waiters are attentive so you can order drinks and food easily from Dantanna's menu. I had the crab fritters and the lobster and scallop risotto along with the Partida margarita, which was among the best I've tasted in Atlanta. It was ultra-smooth and had a tasty flavor, not to mention a powerful punch for its compact size. The food was also delicious and filling. The Buckhead Cigar Lounge is semi-private with dues-paying members who receive discounts on cigars and invites to exclusive events, some even held at other restaurants. If you don't feel like being inside on a super nice day, you can purchase your cigar and go puff away on Dantanna's patio. Mike says that cigars aren't about smoking but about a lifestyle filled with great people and conversation. I certainly felt that way. I chimed into conversations and just had a really nice time. It was such an unexpectedly pleasant experience.
